The theater was empty when the call came, but the voice on the line knew everything about Demi Ellison's past.

For years, the most influential family in Lakeshore had controlled every version of the truth. Their story was repeated in interviews, contracts, and private meetings until no one questioned it.

The assistant had kept one page of notes because the instructions had seemed wrong. That page connected the secret to every important decision made afterward.

When Demi Ellison confronted Simon Kane, he admitted that his family had benefited. She told him that love without honesty had only made the betrayal more efficient.
